Rate my turban is a platform that allows of turbans to showcase innovative and unique designs. An often misunderstood and unappreciated article of great history, religious significance and also cultural importance is the Blue Turban. This is an article of clothing worn by the Sikh religious group signifies the warrior in them. It also also assumed to be a gift from their guru to them. The garment is a way of the Sikh crowning themselves to become Singhs and Kaurs who sit at the throne of commitment and higher consciousness. It is a garment mostly worn by the ministers and Gyanis in the Sikh communities.

The piece of clothing was worn a lot alongside the cape sometime in the late 1400s by both the Hindus and the Muslims, then their masters. However it is only after Guru Nanak and his nine successors wore it daily that it bore any significance. This is talked of in the Guru Granth Sahib, Sikh Holy scripture.

The origin of the navy blue garment is not clear. However it is said to have been worn in battle by the Sikh warriors. On them they have a crescent shaped sword and another double edged sword, both metallic, which are held by a woven chainmail cord, knoted in a pattern. Apart from being a decoration it protected the wearer from any kind of slashing weapon of the enemy.

History of the blue style of the garment is unclear. What is known about it though is that it used to be donned by Sikhs during battle. On them there is a metallic symbol of a crescent shaped sword and a double edged sword which are held in place by a chainmail cord which is woven and tied in a pattern. This was supposed to protect the head from slashing objects.

This garment has its significance. For one wearing this garment was similar to pledging allegiance to your Guru and your commitment in serving everybody even if they had any ill intentions towards you or members of your family. This garment is the self crowning of an individual, not just another piece of clothing as taken for by many. As a matter of fact it is considered a signature of nobility and it also represents respectability.

Interestingly, the garment is not all culture and religion but also has an aspect of technology in it. Since the hair is long it is usually tied into a knot. This is known as Rishi knots which supposedly draws meditation energy towards the head. Now the aspect of the garment towards that purpose is holding the 26 bones that make up the skull in place.

There are some differences between how the article is worn in Sikhism and other religions. For one in Sikhism it is wound anew on each and every day. It is also wrapped with a peak on the front. Women are allowed to wear the sacred garment it is not a must that they do and thus majority wears a scarf.

It is also not proper to look down on those who wear the article. We can appreciate the blue turban as a cultural and religious piece of clothing.
