Rosary Beads From Flowers Are The Perfect Keepsake

By Janine Hughes

Saving flowers from a special event is very common. Whether you have saved flowers from a wedding, funeral, or birth, you probably pressed or dried them as a way of preserving them. Now you can memorialize the event by making rosary beads from flowers. This is a great way to create a family heirloom that can be passed on over the generations.

There are different processes that are used to create the bead. Typically, most processes boil a large amount of petals and mix them with different ingredients like polymer or ceramic clay. First the dried petals are chopped up and ground down, boiled and then made into a clay. Next the clay is rolled and fired. This creates a strong ceramic or polymer bead which is a product of the petals so the memory is preserved forever.

Even though flower fragments are not visible, you will notice irregularities in the surface that are evidence of the petals. A ceramic bead has a matte finish, never glazed, and the color pastel. A polymer bead is smooth, polished looking, and has a deeper color. In the polymer bead flower particles are easily seen.

The ceramic bead feels like a water worn pebble with a slightly rough surface similar to a fine sandpaper. A polymer bead feels smooth and velvety. Both of the materials are very tough and can only be broken on purpose by hitting it with something like a hammer. Everyday, normal use will not cause any damage to the bead. They can even stand up to accidentally running through the washing machine.

While the ceramic bead is like a small stone, the polymer bead has some flexibility. Once the ceramic and polymer bead comes out of the kiln they can last for year. The number of years a ceramic bead lasts is in the thousands. However, it is uncertain the number of years a polymer bead can last. Because of the material it is made with it is likely to be around for hundreds of years but its color can fade.

The beads do not naturally smell like the petals they are made from. Fragrance can be added to the bead using oils. This is an added feature that is done on request. Periodically you may need to add more fragrance to the prayer beads. You can purchase the fragrant oils at craft stores. You can also store the beads with a scented sachet to keep it fragrant.

Prices for this rosary varies according to the kind of metal parts selected. You can choose from gold or silver plated, gold filled, 14kt gold, or sterling silver. Because the finish can wear off of the plated and filled metal you should keep in mind where you will carry your rosary. Carrying the rosary in a pocket or purse will cause the finish to wear.

This is a very unique way of honoring an important event in your life. Regardless if the flowers are from a funeral, birth of a child, or a wedding, these prayer beads are a wonderful way to memorialize an occasion. Lasting a lifetime, they can pass on to future generations.
