Loose Diamonds Should Be Experienced

By Carl Prescot

Consumers love a good deal, and are very apt to find what they are looking for online. The Internet has become a wonderful way of making purchases that are convenient and sometimes cheaper than the average store. However, not all items, such as loose diamonds, should be purchased online.

These stones are a gorgeous work of art that needs to be experienced in person. One can give the make and model of a sports car with all the details. It is only until the consumer touches it, smells that new car smell, and finally test drives it, that they feel its awesomeness. The same thing goes for loose diamonds. One needs to experience the shine and its depth when they put it in their hand, not when they simply look on the internet.

Individuals should be able to view the brightness and quality of the stone. They should be able to view it through a loupe in order to see minute details that the naked eye can't see. Few individuals would purchase a home without first taking a tour of the property. Diamonds should be treated the same way. Comparisons to other stones should be made, and differences should be pointed out. If dealers purchase diamonds through examination, so should consumers who are concerned about the quality of their goods.

The individual should know that these stones can cost from 1,000 to 10,000 dollars depending upon the quality. Consumers would purchase jewels from the establishments that sold them the cheapest, if indeed, all stones were created equal. However, they aren't. Everything that is sold below market isn't always the greatest value. Consumers purchasing online need to get an appraisal of their stone by a local jeweler.

One thing to also keep in mind is that most sites don't offer any maintenance if something happens to the diamond such as a crack or chip. If the stone has to be sent in again, the consumer has to gamble whether or not it will come back to them again as the same stone.

All jewelry dealers are not honest. Consumers need to be careful of overinflated prices, as well as fake certifications. Just remember, that purchasing loose diamonds is an experience that one will never forget.
