An Introduction To Women Clergy Robes

By Kathy Kaufman

Religion is a big part of many peoples lives. These beliefs help to shape each one as individuals and can be a great influence in their lives. It can affect ones thoughts and guide ones actions. Worship and other religious services are facilitated by a leader. These individuals often wear women clergy robes, making them stand out as they go about their functions.

Members of the congregation will be able to see this when the priest is at the pulpit, performing a service. He may wear different garments, depending on the sacrament being performed. Different religions typically have their own garments to wear. Though this can seem like a casual thing, there are serious reasons why these gowns are being worn.

The simplest reason is that this has always been the practice. Priests have long been wearing this although the designs may not have been what is being used today. They started centuries ago and the tradition has survived until now. Given the references in the religious texts, the garments were soon linked to the priests.

The garments are also worn to separate the person from his religious duties. Most of the time, when you know someone, you start feeling too comfortable and are not able to take them seriously. When the priest wears these garments, it reminds everyone that he is now leading the congregation to worship. He stops becoming your friend or your neighbor and becomes the priest.

Just as you go to office with your business suit on, these leaders also have their own garments. Once they are seen with such articles, then you know that they are working as a priest. No other individuals wear these vestments. This differentiates them from the followers.

If you look at these clothes, you will notice their formal nature. This is something that contributes to the solemnity of the occasion and helps the congregation realize that the occasion should be taken seriously. It contributes to the atmosphere. Imagine what would happen if the priest were to walk up the pulpit in a shirt and jeans.

It is also worn because it keeps everything uniform. Leaders of the same denomination have the same garments for specific occasions. Moreover, these gowns keep everyday clothes hidden underneath. This eliminates the need to dress up and look good. There is no room for vanity and the leader will not spend time worrying about his style or his appearance.

Though there are religions that fully support the wearing of these articles, there are also those who have stopped doing so. This could be because they want to indicate that they have a different faith. Others also do not support this because they think that it is an indication of the gap between men of religion and the congregation.

You can commonly see the pastors wearing women clergy robes when they are performing various services. These garments are worn to indicate their office and make them easily identifiable to the followers. It contributes to the solemnity of the sacraments they are conducting. It also helps the congregation to see him as a man of religion and not just someone they know.
