Gabrielle Arruda is a Parsons the New School for Design graduate whose upcoming collection takes inspiration from the modern woman with practical yet high fashion designs. With Roots in Chicago she moved to New York to launch a career in fashion. As a young designer, her clothing gives fashion connoisseurs a fresh look on femininity and modernity.
Her debut Spring/Summer 2014 collection takes inspiration from one of the natural elements of the earth, wind. The design for each garment was made to embody the movement and energy wind provides to farms in rural areas. The collection stands as her entrance in the fashion world as a modern designer. Although wind is intangible, the collection evokes a physical concept to the idea and the energy that comes from it.
One of the ideals important to Gabrielle Arruda is having a fully functioning line made in the USA. Having the collection made from fabrics in America give her collection a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship without sacrificing the quality of the work and the design.
The Spring/Summer 2014 was named "Energy" for the winds powerful method to create energy. To bring this idea to life the designer used lightweight fabric while keep her ideal woman/customer in mind. The collection featured pieces in varying shades of white and a play on silhouettes. The silhouettes within the garments create a modern sensuality while remaining classic and tasteful.
Skirts, shorts, pants, and dresses are a few of the main items to be found in the collection. The varying shapes of necklines and fabrics create a distinct characteristic to not only the garments themselves, but the collection as well. To create a comfortable and sophisticated flow within the garments, fabrics like cotton, linen and silk were used.
The "Energy" collection features various designs for the modern woman like evening dresses, gowns, pants suits, and short suits. When designing the collection Gabrielle kept in mind that the modern woman is constantly in motion like the wind. Her garments evoke that motion with their easy flow and light movements. One of the garments that stands out on its own is a shirt with a silk chiffon neck piece that draws in your attention. Other items found in the collection are lightweight coats, vest, and jackets that help tie the garments together in an ensemble.
Aside from her debut collection, Gabrielle Arruda is also focusing her time on other projects. As a contributor to the community and avid believer of women's rights in the workplace, she has promised part of the proceeds from an item in her collection toward a charity that celebrates women empowerment. She has also been working on a logo pin to raise money for breast cancer research.
Looking forward to her next collection, Gabrielle Arruda is putting the final touches on her Fall/Winter collection before debuting it in early 2014. To connect with fashion lovers she has shared designs and daily inspirations on social media platforms like Facebook Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
