Keeping Your Rhinestone Jewelry Pieces Staying Beautiful For A Long Time

By Nelda Powers

Whenever you have to go to a formal event or perform before a crowd, putting on rhinestone jewelry pieces can make you a standout. It's important that you keep your accessories looking their best so that they may carry out their job. To ensure that they can make you dazzle for a long time, taking good care of them is a must.

Do take note that these accessories are different from the ones that you use on a regular basis. Naturally, it follows that their maintenance needs are unique. If you mistakenly opt for improper caring procedures, it's not unlikely for your prized possessions to end up ruined, most especially those sparkling rhinestones.

Moisture is the number one enemy of these items. Most of today's rhinestones have foil backings that give them the characteristic sparkle they posses. With those parts damaged, these accessories may fail to radiate the kind of drama they are well-known for. Needless to say, using commercially available jewelry cleaning solutions on them is not recommendable.

For cleaning them on a regular basis, it's usually enough to have the surface of rhinestones wiped with a lint-free cloth. Doing this procedure as necessary helps prevents the piling up of dirt and grime, something that's harder to remove after a while. To remove dust and other unwanted particles on the metal parts, a soft-bristled toothbrush can help to the trick.

At times, a simple wiping with a soft cloth may not give you the result you want. Placing a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the cloth will help bring back the lost shine of those rhinestones. It breaks down stubborn oil and stains that keep those gem-like decorations from sparkling. Other than rubbing alcohol, you may also try using glass cleaner.

As earlier mentioned, moisture can easily damage the foil backing of today's rhinestones. It's a good idea to place the accessory face down on a piece of paper towel after cleaning. This helps make sure that no excess rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner stays around. After a few hours, it can be considered safe to put the clean accessory back to its storage space.

Your stunning accessories can be enjoyed for a long time if stored in the proper manner. If you own several pieces of them, it's a good idea to invest in a large jewelry organizer so there's room for all. Opt for something that has numerous compartments to save them from getting in contact with one another or ending up tangled. It's also possible to simply place every piece in its own pouch that's out of velvet, cotton or any other soft material.

Ensure that you do not leave your rhinestone jewelry pieces under direct sunlight or next to an oven, radiator or other heat sources. It's in a cool and dry area where you should place them. Items with silver plating are prone to tarnishing so it's best to store them in airtight containers. Remember to put on your accessories only after you have applied cosmetics like hairspray, perfume, deodorant, lotion and others as some of the chemicals in them may rob those rhinestones of their sparkle.
